Managing and Troubleshooting Product Descriptions in WSM

Product descriptions are one of the most important parts of your storefront. This article covers the most common questions and issues store owners run into when working with product descriptions—including descriptions that won't display, formatting problems, code appearing in text, and finding products with missing information.

Descriptions Not Displaying or Not Updating on the Front End

If you've entered or updated a description in your admin but it isn't showing on the live product page, try the following:

    • Confirm you saved your changes in the admin.
    • Refresh the product page in your browser, and clear your browser cache if the old content still appears.
    • Double-check that you edited the correct product (verify the product ID matches the page you're viewing).

If the front-end description still doesn't match what's in the back end after these steps, this may involve custom styling or template behavior specific to your store. Contact WSM Support with the affected product IDs and the URLs where the problem appears so we can investigate.Unwanted

Code Appearing in Descriptions

Sometimes leftover HTML code can appear as visible text in a product description or the right rail of a product page. This can happen when code is pasted into a description field, and in some cases it can interfere with other features (such as third-party reviews widgets).

What you can do:

    • Open the affected product in your admin and review the description field for stray HTML tags or code fragments.
    • Remove any unexpected code from the text.
If the same code appears across many products, or you're not comfortable editing it, contact WSM Support with an example product URL. Our team can help identify and clean up the affected products.Adding Images to a Description

Placing an image alongside text (for example, floating an image to the left or right of a paragraph) requires some HTML formatting. If you find that adding an image breaks the layout of your description, this is usually caused by how the image code is placed within the surrounding text.

If you're hitting a wall, reach out to WSM Support with:

    • The product you're working on
    • A description of where you'd like the image to appear

Our team can help you format the image correctly so it displays as intended.

Removing a Repeated Line of Text From Product Pages

Occasionally a line of text (for example, an ordering note that appears under the price) may show up across multiple products and you may not see an obvious field for it. This type of text is often part of a page template rather than an individual product's description.

To locate text like this:

    • Open the product page on your live site.
    • Use Ctrl + F (or Cmd + F on Mac) to search the page for the exact wording.

If the text is coming from a template rather than a product field, editing it may require template changes. Contact WSM Support with the exact text and an example URL, and we can help remove or update it.

Finding Products Missing Meta Keywords or Descriptions

If you want to identify products that are missing information—such as Meta Keywords or Meta Descriptions—without checking each product one by one, contact WSM Support. Our team can assist with catalog-wide reviews through data services rather than requiring you to search product by product.

Tip: When contacting support about bulk catalog questions, let us know exactly which fields you're checking for (for example, Meta Keywords, Meta Descriptions) so we can help you most efficiently.

Adding Notices to All Product Pages (e.g., California Prop 65)

If you need a standard notice or warning added to the bottom of every product page—such as a California Prop 65 warning—this is a store-wide change that typically involves your product page template. To request this:

    • Prepare the exact wording of the notice you want displayed.
    • If possible, include a mockup showing where the notice should appear on the page.
    • Contact WSM Support with these details.

Note: Store-wide additions like legal or compliance notices are applied at the template level so they appear consistently across all product pages. Providing a clear mockup helps us place the notice exactly where you want it.

Reporting a Description Error

If you notice a specific problem in a description—such as duplicated text (for example, the word "each" appearing twice) or a formatting error—please report it to WSM Support with:

    • The product URL where the error appears
    • A short description of what's wrong (or a screenshot)
This helps our team locate and correct the issue quickly.
