Managing Product Options and Option Inventory in Your WSM Store
Product options let you offer variations of a product—such as color, size, or fitment—and control inventory for each variation. This article explains how to review, clean up, and configure product options in your Web Shop Manager (WSM) store.
Over time, stores can accumulate many product options, some of which may no longer be in use. WSM includes an Options management area where you can review all of your options in one place.
To access your options list:
- Log in to your store's admin panel.
- Navigate to the Options area (
admin?view=option.index).
- From here you can view your existing options and identify which ones are assigned to products.
Reviewing this list is a helpful first step before deleting any options you no longer need.
Important: Before deleting an option, confirm it is not currently assigned to any products. Removing an option that is still in use can affect how those products display and function on your storefront. Delete only options you are certain are unused.
Understanding Option Inventory Configuration
Option Inventory Configuration lets you track stock levels for specific product variations (for example, tracking how many units of a "Red" variant remain).
Please keep the following in mind when working with option inventory:
- An option inventory configuration created for one product applies to that product individually. Setting a stock quantity on one product does not automatically update the same variation across other products that share it.
- If you need the same variation to reflect a shared stock count across multiple products, this behavior is not handled automatically by the standard configuration.
If your store relies on shared inventory across products that use the same variations, we recommend contacting the WSM Support Team so we can review your specific setup and discuss the best approach for your catalog.
Handling Discontinued Products
If you carry products that may be discontinued or removed from a data set, you can keep them on your site rather than deleting them. A common approach is to:
- Change the product's status to Not for Sale.
- Assign the product to a hidden "discontinued" category so it no longer appears in your active catalog.
This preserves the product record while removing it from public view.
Special Pricing for Customer Groups
If you want to offer special pricing to certain customers—for example, a discounted rate on a specific category of products—WSM supports customer Price Groups. Each customer profile can be assigned to a price group, which controls the pricing that customer sees when logged in.
This is typically something you can manage yourself from the Customers area of your admin panel, where you can create a price group and assign it to a customer profile. If you'd like a hand setting this up for your specific catalog and pricing goals, the WSM Support Team is happy to walk you through creating the customer profile and assigning the appropriate price group.
Requesting a Copy or Export of Your Data
If you are planning a redesign, migration, or need a backup, WSM can provide an export of your store data. Exports can include items such as:
- Product data (available in structured formats such as CSV)
- Product images
- Page content and blog content
- Visual assets such as CSS and JavaScript
To request an export, contact the WSM Support Team and let us know exactly what you need included. Providing a clear list of the content you require helps us prepare your export accurately.
