Restricting Products to Specific Customer Groups with Access Groups

Web Shop Manager lets you limit certain products so that only members of a designated customer group can see and purchase them. This is useful for exclusive offerings, dealer-only items, or member-specific pricing. The feature is called **Access Groups**. This article walks you through creating an Access Group and assigning a product to it.

What Is an Access Group?

An Access Group is a type of customer group that controls visibility. When a product is assigned to an Access Group, only customers who belong to that group will be able to view and buy it. All other shoppers will not see the product.

Step 1: Create the Access Group

1. Go to **Customers > Customer Groups > Add Group**.
2. Enter a title for the group (for example, "Exclusive Members").
3. Check the box to mark it as an **Access Group**.
4. Save the group.

Step 2: Assign a Product to the Group

You can restrict a product directly from the product record:

1. Go to **Products > Products**.
2. Click the **edit** icon for the item you want to restrict.
3. Locate the Access Group setting on the product page and assign the product to the group you created.
4. Save your changes.

Once assigned, the product will only be visible to customers who are members of that Access Group.

Important Notes

  • Add your customers to the group. A product restricted to an Access Group will only appear for customers who are actually members of that group. Be sure to assign the appropriate customers to the group so they can access the product.

  • Test after setup. After configuring the restriction, we recommend viewing your store as a non-member (for example, logged out or as a regular customer) to confirm the product is hidden as expected, and then as a group member to confirm it appears.

Those fall outside the scope of Access Groups and were not incorporated here, as they do not contain documented resolution steps.
