Manually Adding Redirects
- In the back-end of the site hover on System.
- Click URL Redirects.
- Click Add Redirect.
- View the page on the front end of the website
- Highlight and copy all the information after your domain and include the " / ".
- for example: you would need to copy everything after the ".com" www.webshopmanager.com/c-1390464-exterior-accessories.html. This is also called the relative URL.
- Paste the relative URL into the URL Path.
- View the page on the front end of the website you want to redirect the page too.
- Highlight and copy all the information after your domain and include the " / " (See example in Step 5).
- Paste this URL into the Target Field.
- Leave rewrite unchecked.
- Click Add Redirect button.
- In order for Redirects to take effect, you must clear your site's cache.
- Click configuration from the systems menu.
- Scroll down and click save changes - Note you do not have to make any changes.
Importing Redirects
Large amounts of redirects can be created by using an import.
- Get a list of the URLs you want to redirect. This can be achieved from multiple sources. Sometimes it is from Google, your sitemap, or even exporting products with URL field.
- Name the heading for the URL you want to redirect to OLD URL
- Then add a column with NEW URL
- In the NEW URL add the URL where you want the page to be redirected too. You should choose a page that is close in content.
- If you are redirecting a page on your site to another page on your site, remove your domain name from all URLs.
- Save your file as a CSV
- Copy the first three rows of data, including your column heading
- Paste into a new sheet
- Save the file as a CSV with Test on the end of the filename
- Run a test import
- Log into WSM
- Hover on Data
- Click CSV Profile
- Search for Profile ID 756, WSM (COPY ONLY) Global Redirects Import
- Click the Copy icon
- Click Edit icon on the newly copied profile
- Rename the profile to something with meaning i.e. your TAG - Redirects
- Click the import icon
- Click Choose File and location your Test file on your computer
- Click Run Import
- Once the import is finished confirm your test ran properly
- Hover on System
- Click Redirects
- Search for one of your test URLs
- The page you are redirected should be listed on the left and the URL it is redirecting too, the right. Confirm it does not include your domain.
- Once your test is confirm, return to CSV Profiles and import the full list
- In order for Redirects to take effect, you must clear your sites cache.
- Click configuration from the systems menu
- Scroll down and click save changes - Note you do not have to make any changes
Redirect work immediately you will need to clear the site's cache
- Hover over Systems
- Click Configuration
- Click Save Changes button, you do not need to make any changes.
- Enter the old URL or if you still have the page open from step 4 above, click Refresh. You should be taken to the new page.
Create a Domain Redirect
The easiest way to do a domain redirect is with a domain forward in your domain management account. This may be a site like GoDaddy, depending on where you purchased those additional domains. You can set it up as a Domain Forward.
The second way is to add the domain to your Admin as a domain redirect.
- In to the Admin of the site hover on System.
- Click URL Redirects.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Domains
- Click Add Domain
- Enter the required information
- Click Add Domain
If you a redirecting a page on your site to another page on your site, never include your domain in the redirect.
