What question is your article answering? Why Search Results Show Out-of-Stock or Old Prices (and What to Do About Broken Search Pages)

If your storefront search occasionally shows a product as "out of stock" when it's actually available, displays a price that doesn't match the live product page, or leads to a page that won't load, this article explains what's happening and what you can do.

There are two separate situations covered below.

---

1. Search Shows Outdated Stock or Pricing

What you might see:

    • A product appears as "out of stock" in search results, but when you click through to the product page, it's in stock and can be purchased.
    • A price shown in search results doesn't match the current price on the product page.
Why this happens:

Most often, this is caused by a search index — a separate snapshot of your product data that the search tool reads from. This index does not update instantly. Instead, it refreshes on a schedule:

    • A partial index runs a few times per day.
    • A full index runs once per week.

Because of this schedule, recent changes to a product's stock level or price may not appear in search results right away. Until the next index runs, search can display older information — even though your live product page is already correct.

An indexing delay is the most common cause, but it isn't the only one. Sometimes the discrepancy points to a different underlying issue, such as:

    • Search indexing has stopped running entirely. In some cases a store's indexing is no longer running at all, so search never catches up on its own. Our support team can re-enable and re-run the indexing to fix this.
    • An inventory-configuration issue on products with multiple options or variants. When a product's stock is tied to its options/variants rather than to the product directly, the search tool may not be able to read the correct stock count — which can make the item look out of stock specifically in search.
What to do:
    • Confirm the live product page is correct. Click through from the search result to the product page. If the product page shows the right stock and price, your store data is fine — search just hasn't caught up yet.
    • Give the next index a chance to catch up. In most cases the discrepancy clears once the next partial or full index runs.
    • If it doesn't clear, contact support. If waiting through a full index cycle doesn't fix it, reach out so our team can check whether indexing is actually running on your store, and whether the affected product has an inventory-configuration issue.
Note: Because the live product page always reflects your current data, customers can still purchase in-stock items even if search temporarily shows them as unavailable.

Tip: If a search result is still showing outdated stock or pricing after a week (a full index cycle) has passed, contact our support team so we can take a closer look.

2. Search Leads to a Broken or Non-Working Page

What you might see:

    • Clicking the search bar, or clicking a search result, takes you to a page that doesn't load, shows an error, or otherwise doesn't function correctly.
Why this is different:

This is not an indexing delay. A broken or non-functioning page is a distinct issue that needs to be investigated and fixed directly. Waiting for the next index will not resolve it.

What to do:

Report the problem to our support team and include the following so we can reproduce and fix it quickly:

    • The exact search term you entered.
    • A screenshot of the broken or non-working page.
    • Any additional detail about what you clicked (the search bar itself, or a specific result).
The more specific your search term and screenshot, the faster we can identify the cause.

Quick Reference

| Symptom | Likely Cause | What to Do |

| Search shows "out of stock" but product page allows purchase | Usually an indexing delay (sometimes indexing stopped, or an inventory-config issue on products with variants) | Confirm product page is correct; wait for next index; if it doesn't clear, contact support |

| Search price doesn't match product page price | Usually an indexing delay | Confirm product page is correct; wait for next index; if it doesn't clear, contact support |

| Clicking search or a result leads to a broken page | Distinct bug | Report to support with search term + screenshot |

If you're unsure which situation you're dealing with, start by clicking through to the live product page. If the product page is correct, it's most likely an indexing delay — and if a full index cycle passes without fixing it, contact support so they can check whether indexing is running and whether the product has an inventory-configuration issue. If the page itself is broken, report it to support.
