FILES AND IMAGES

The files & images section in the back end of your Web Shop Manager (WSM) website is an important place that is easy to use for maintaining banners, icons, buttons, and other images that are associated with your site.

This page will attempt to explain how to create and add files or images, and how to maintain this section so that everything continues to work properly.

Overview

The files & images section can be located by first logging in to your WSM account and navigating to the dashboard. Hover over Content and click on the Files & Images option that appears in the drop down menu. This will take you to the folder tree that has been established in your WSM back end.

Folders that have been created will have a blue arrow next to them that can be clicked in order to show or hide the files being stored in said folder. Top level folders will have a 3 digit ID, while sub folders and files created underneath those will have subsequently longer IDs.

Making a Folder

To make a new folder in your files & images section, follow these steps:

  1. From your WSM dashboard, hover over Content and click Files & Images from the drop down menu that appears.
  2. Click New Folder button located in the upper right hand corner, or bottom right hand corner.
  3. In the Name field, enter the name of the folder you wish to create. The name should be short, and cover whatever category of files will be placed in it. A "/" should be placed after the name. For example "blog-images/" is an example of a file created for images used in blog.
  4. In the Parent field select which folder this new folder will be associated with. If it is to be a top level folder, leave the selection as saying "-none-".
  5. Click Save Changes.

Uploading

To upload files or images into a folder, follow these steps:

  1. From your WSM dashboard, hover over Content and click Files & Images from the drop down menu that appears.
  2. You can either click Add Files in the top right hand corner or bottom right hand corner of the section, or you can locate the folder you wish to upload into, and click the green arrow icon to the left of it. If you do not upload directly to a folder, the files will not be placed in one, but will rather be added to the bottom of the list by themselves. It is recommended to upload to a folder.
  3. From the upload screen, click Choose File which will open up your local folders where you will need to locate the file you have saved.
  4. After selecting the file, you can choose to enter a new filename, but it is not required.
  5. You can also upload multiple files at once using WSM's Multi-File Uploader.  To do this, click Browse on the uploader and select all files you wish to upload.
  6. When they have all appeared in the uploader, click Upload. This will take a varying amount of time depending on how many files you are uploading.

Note:

There is an upload limit of 25MB per file.  If your file exceeds 25mb, try reducing your image resolution.  If your file is a document such as a PDF, try compressing it or using a different file format.

⚠️Caution:

  • In the case of Images not appearing on the site, for example, 3 photos uploaded and only 2 are visible, please create a support ticket.  TIP: Check the delayed images queue to see if your image import has fully completed first!
  • Ensure images you are attempting to upload are in RGB color model & not CMYK. Images can only be uploaded successfully in RGB. You can check an image's color model using software such as Photoshop. There are many online tools (like http://www.cmyk2rgb.com/) that can convert images for you if needed.
  • File upload size restriction: You are not able to add files or images to the site that exceed 25MB

Maintaining Pre-Made Folders

It is important when you are navigating your files & images section to ensure that you are not deleting any crucial files that have been uploaded. The team at WSM will have already created folders filled with files that are pertinent to the structure and design of your website itself. DO NOT delete any folder or file that you are not absolutely sure was created by you and doesn't contain any important files. In fact, we recommend that you don't delete anything, period. Just in case!

Folder and files created by WSM are important because they may include the following:

  • Style sheets that determine the look of your site
  • Icons and buttons used throughout your site
  • Banner images, or images being pulled from the folder and used elsewhere on your site
  • Various other elements that are crucial to the functionality of your site
Terms
Name Name you have chosen for the folder you are creating.
Parent If applicable, the folder that the folder you are creating is a child of. Top level folders will not have a parent.

Importing Product Images From Hosted Images

When importing products, use files and images when images are not on a web server somewhere.

If you do not have images located on a web server you can use the WSM Content>Files & Images feature to upload the files. Create a folder called "allproductimages". This will allow you to easily delete the images after your importing is complete. Note: All web images must be a .jpg, .gif or .png file format.

To capture the URL for your Import File, click the View icon to the left of the file you uploaded.

    Sharing Files with Team Members

Instead of emailing PDF's, and logo images to specific members of the design team you can use the Files & Images section of your site to host them and create a shared space between all parties.

    Images for Site Design

During the development of your site, WSM team members will use this section of your site to host the images that will be pulled into your site's template(s). These files are used to control how your site looks and functions (style.css) as you will want to make sure that you do not mistakenly delete any of these files.

    Images for Content Pages

All images to be used within content pages will be hosted in Files & Images as well. Those content pages include:
