Flat Rate Shipping

WSM does not have a dedicated Flat Rate Shipping tool at this time, but clients have used this strategy to attain a similar effect. At the product level, it is possible to use the handling field to assign a flat rate shipping amount. From the dashboard navigate to your products via the top navigation bar, Catalog → Products. Then search for the product you wish to assign a flat rate to. Set the product to Free Shipping and enter an amount in Handling field, this amount will serve as the flat rate fee.

NOTES:

  • When using this method, that rate is charged per product. So if your customer orders quantity 3 of a product where the handling amount is set to $10, a $30 handling charge will apply.
  • The fee set for the Flat Rate will not populate on the Shipping Rate line at checkout, it will appear on the Handling line. You can use the Shipping Remarks field at the product level to communicate this to your customers.
  • Because the flat rate is applied as a handling fee, any promotions discounting shipping will not apply to these products.
  • Setting the product to Free Shipping will cause the Free Shipping graphic to display on the product. Removing this graphic will require work from a Frontend Designer. If you would like a WSM Designer to perform this work for you under Professional Services, please submit a request via the Service Desk.

Saving

Each time you edit the information on your Site's Configuration, it is important that you click the Save Changes button before navigation to another menu option in Web Shop Manager. Note: you can be on any tab on the System's Configuration screen when you click Save Changes and it will save the changes on all tabs.

Summary

Shipping & Handling may be the most important part of setting up your configuration. Keep in mind that you can edit your shipping methods at any time to test what combinations of free shipping or discounted rates increase conversion rates among your customer. Shipping rates can have a great effect, positive and negative, on conversions. When editing shipping methods, make sure to take the time to proceed to checkout with a few different products to confirm that your customers will experience your desired shipping options.
